  • AVI Record Number: 0674a
  • CAVI Collection: Athens, N.M.
  • CAVI Lemma: BF Tyrrhenian neck amphora. Prometheus Painter (Bothmer). [Second quarter sixth]. Early period (Kluiver).
  • CAVI Subject: Neck: palmette-lotus festoons. Body: A: Heracles and Amazons. B: jockeys on horses trotting to left. Below: floral.
  • CAVI Inscriptions: A: [Ι]φις{2}. Πανταριστε, retr. hερακλες. Ανδρομαχε, retr. Τελαμον. Αινιπ[π]ε, retr. B: Nικιας. ΟΙνιαδες. Καλ[λ]ιας. hισχιπας{3}.
  • CAVI Footnotes: {1} the cat. wrongly attributes to the Timiades Painter (Kluiver). {2} female; see Florence 70,993 (CAVI 3584 with corrections) and Iliad 9.667. {3} the Sotheby cat. wrongly spells ξ instead of χ. - "it is strange that the name starts with hισ- and ends with -ας, instead of Ισ- and -ος respectively" (so BABesch: is this really Ruijgh rather than Kluiver?). I.e. the text expects Ισχιπ[π]ος. [The name is not in LGPN ii or Pape, but many other compounds with Ισχ- are. I.e.: Ischippos miswritten as Hischip as. [The only irregularity is -ας.]
  • CAVI Comments: Ex Küsnacht, Hirschmann G 30.
  • CAVI Number: 674a
  • AVI Bibliography: Sotheby (1993), 120/53 (inscriptions transcribed){1}. — Kluiver (1995), 59/5 and 65/5 (inscriptions done by C.J. Ruijgh), figs. 2, 6, and 50 (profile and section).
  • CAVI / AVI Data from Henry Immerwahr's Corpus of Attic Vase Inscriptions (CAVI), updated by Rudoph Wachter's Attic Vase Inscriptions (AVI)
