(Cambridge, 1919): II, 496
CAVI Lemma: RF cup. From Orvieto. Douris. First quarter fifth. Transitional II (Bare)
(Buitron-Oliver).
CAVI Subject: Int.: youth with a hare. A-B: very fragmentary: athletes and men.
CAVI Inscriptions: Int.: along the margin, starting to right of the youth's face: Δ[ορι]ς
εγραφσε[ν]{2}. A: text, not visible in photo.: hο [Χ]αι[ρε]σ(τ)[ρατ]ο[ς]
[κ]αλος{3}. B: also text only: near the lip: hο Ι[---](?){4}.
CAVI Footnotes: {1} The number is given in Para. as 73,759, but ARV[2] and CVA have 74,750.
Not in Add.[2]. {2} or εγραφσεν(?); see ARV[2]. CVA brackets the final nu. The
photo seems to show Δο[--]ς, etc., but that would imply a gap in the lost
portion, unless the hare intervenes, which does not seem likely. The inscription
is extremely well spaced. CVA's reading Δ[ορι]ς gives the right spacing. The
final nu must have been on the other side of the youth's head. {3} The bracketed
tau is given as a chi in Para. {4} I assume the vertical line to be part of a
chi and the inscription to be as on A. The rendering in CVA is unclear.
CAVI Comments: The signature from ARV[2], other inscriptions are given in Para. after CVA.
Tailed rho.
CAVI Number: 3591
