CAVI Lemma: Fragmentary BF column krater. From Samothrace. Princeton Painter (Ellen
Davis, Moore). Third quarter sixth. 550-540.
CAVI Subject: A: Heracles and Cycnus; at left, a frontal horseman and Athena; at right,
Zeus and Ares. (The right portion ia missing.) B: Heracles and Athena in a
chariot, with Nike; probably going into the battle on A.
CAVI Inscriptions: Along the top of an unframed panel: ϝε̣χεκλειδ̣ες [ε]ποιεσε.
CAVI Footnotes: {1} listed as 65.1055.+
CAVI Comments: + 71.1014a and 71.1072. Moore reads a final nu which Boegehold did not find.
The initial digamma may be a closed heta, as Boegehold admits as a possibility
and Johnston suggests while comparing Acr. 914, ABV 666 (which he restores
accordingly). I think digamma more likely. Boardman's (F)erchekleides seems
improbable. Moore's discussion of the inscription on p. 239 is superseded by
Boegehold and Johnston.
