CAVI Lemma: WG alabastron. From Megara. Group of Negro Alabastra. First quarter fifth.
CAVI Subject: An African to right, looking left, with outstretched arms and a hatchet in one
hand; at the top, maeander.
CAVI Inscriptions: Above the maeander: hο παλς : κα[λ]ο(.)(.) :*{1}. On the African's left: ναιχι.
At his right: καλος. I.e.: hο παις καλος, ναιχι καλος (intended).
CAVI Footnotes: {1} sic dr.
CAVI Comments: Ex Private collection. "Unusual," Beazley. For the form παλς, see Kretschmer
(1988), 476ff.; also Kretschmer (1894), 188ff. But I think παυς, παλς and παλος
are confusions with καλος. See now Threatte (1996), 278-79.
