- CAVI Collection: Athens, N.M. Acr. i, 2124.
- CAVI Lemma: Frs. of BF pyxis lid. From Athens. Unattributed. Third quarter sixth.
- CAVI Subject: Satyrs and maenads dancing between ithyphallic mules.
- CAVI Inscriptions: Nonsense: Fr.a: below a mule: γιγιγιοιτ. above his back: [γιγιγι]οιτ{1}. To
his right: γιγι[---]. Fr. b: between satyr and maenad: γιπιγιοιτ. Above maenad's
arm: illegible letters. Fr. c: below a mule, upside down, perhaps: [--]τιτιοιτ.
Fr. d: below a mule: a tau remains of a row of letters.
- CAVI Footnotes: {1} Peek, who thinks (cf. Hampe) these are shouts to drive on the animals. He
compares Acr. 2184: νονονο, and 2569: λολοσλοσ.
- CAVI Comments: Frs. a - e. Hampe thinks gigioit is the braying of a mule. [So later Peek.]
Cf. Berlin 1697. The gammas are printed as Ionic, hence I think they are
probably miswritten tau's.
