CAVI Lemma: Fr. of RF cup. Unattributed. First quarter fifth.
CAVI Subject: No figured decoration preserved.
CAVI Inscriptions: [For the location, see below:] hιερον εποιεσεν{1}.
CAVI Footnotes: {1} HIERONEPOIESEN (Kunisch).
CAVI Comments: Foot only, attached to a cup attributed to the Painter of Berlin 2268 (ARV[2]
156/45). I have not found mention of this signature in Cohen (1991). As
presented by Beazley, the signature is painted on the foot; it should then be on
the reserved foot profile, which is remarkable for Hieron. Both the cup and the
foot seem to be lost. Robertson says the signature is painted on the edge of the
cup foot [presumably BG on the reserved profile? Or could it be in red on BG,
cf. the kantharos Boston 98.932?]. Eph. 1885, 56 (not ill.) mentions a cup foot
with, on the reserved rim, in BG: hι[ε]ρον : εποιεσε[ν]. Could this be the same
fr.? My note lists it as Athens, from the Acropolis.
