  • AVI Record Number: 8017
  • CAVI Collection: Warsaw, National Museum 198,605.
  • CAVI Lemma: BF Panathenaic prize amphora. Painter of Warsaw Panathenaic. Ca. 530.
  • CAVI Subject: A: Athena (shield device: centaur). B: a chariot.
  • CAVI Inscriptions: A: to right of the left column, bending at the bottom: τον Αθενεθεν α[θ]λον{1}.
  • CAVI Footnotes: {1} the missing theta would have come at the corner. My reading from CVA: τον Αθε[ν]εθεν α[θ]λον. But a trace of the nu may be extant. The lambda is not Ionic, as Brandt prints it in error.
  • CAVI Comments: Ex Breslau (Wroclaw). The letters are reasonably careful but the inscription as a whole is casual: it moves away from the column and at the end bends into the horizontal with the missing theta at the corner. CVA's text is not accurate.
  • CAVI Number: 8017
  • AVI Bibliography: Photo. — Peters (1942a), 22/11. — Bernhard (1955), 261ff., figs. 1-2. — M. Bernhard, CVA Warsaw 1, Poland 4 (1960), pls. 20,1-3 and 21,1-3 (20,1 shows the prize inscription well). — Para. (1971), 127/2. — Brandt (1978), 7/56. — AttScr (1990), no. 1206.
  • CAVI / AVI Data from Henry Immerwahr's Corpus of Attic Vase Inscriptions (CAVI), updated by Rudoph Wachter's Attic Vase Inscriptions (AVI)
