CAVI Lemma: Fragmentary RF cup. Epeleios Painter. Last quarter sixth.
CAVI Subject: Int.: a nude young athlete filling a basket(?) with his pick axe. Ext.:
fragmentary: youths with horses, and others.
CAVI Inscriptions: Int.: nonsense: to the youth's left: ο(ν)(.)(.). To his right, downward from
his forehead: υο(.)(σ). B: above the scene: hο πα[ις] [κα]λο[ς]{1}.
CAVI Footnotes: {1} text; not visible in photo.
CAVI Comments: Beazley compares the subject of Brussels R 347, where an athlete is filling a
wicker basket with his pick axe; however, the object on our vase, the shape of
which is unknown to me, does not indicate wicker work. Magi calls it a `cesta'
(basket, hamper). Perhaps a wooden hamper?
