  • CAVI Lemma: Fragmentary RF cup. Douris. First quarter fifth. Middle period (Buitron-Oliver).
  • CAVI Subject: Int.: a music lesson(2)? A seated man holding a lyre, with a dog; a male [youth?] facing him. A-B: men and youths.
  • CAVI Inscriptions: Int.: starting above the man's head: hο [παι]ς; the inscription continues vertically down: καλος. In the exerge, in BG: Εγεας{3}. Under the foot, Grr.: see the facs. in the cat., and the ph., pl. 86.
  • CAVI Footnotes: {1} there seems to be confusion in the listings. {2} so B.-O. I rather think the man is ready to give the youth(?) a lyre. {3} Hegeas: see LGPN ii, s.v. Bothmer (1977a), 218-19, suggests that Hegeas refers to the seated man with the lyre, the name recalling the poet Agias or Hegias, author of the Nostoi.
