CAVI Lemma: Fr. of Panathenaic prize amphora. From Athens. Unattributed. Third century.
CAVI Subject: A: Athena's garment; column topped by a statue at right.
CAVI Inscriptions: To right of the statue, kion.: [ταμ]ιευοντος Ευρυκλειδου{1}.
CAVI Footnotes: {1} restored by Wilhelm who points out that E. could be an earlier ancestor
of E. of Kephisia (last third of third century) who had been proposed by
Benndorf. An earlier restoration had been [κοσμη]τευοντος [clearly wrong], see
C.H. Smith (1896), 198.
CAVI Comments: This is fr. a in Graef–Langlotz; fr. b, from B, shows three runners to right,
but Dow (1936), 57, notes that B does not belong and is probably fourth cent.
Fr. b is no. 126 in Brauchitsch.
CAVI Number: 1028
