Kritios

Cast of the Kritian Boy. Oxford, Ashmolean Museum Cast Gallery B068aAthenian sculptor of the early 5th century BC. With Nesiotes he made the replacement of the Tyrannicides group, which had been carried off by the Persians. The new group stood in the Agora of Athens and is known from Roman copies. With Nesiotes he made other statues, of bronze, dedicated on the Acropolis but known only from their bases, but the head of a marble statue found on the Acropolis so much resembles the copies of the Tyrannicide Harmodios that it has been called the Kritian Boy (see cast to left).
