Delphi

Aerial view of Delphi.Map of Greece and the Aegean.Sanctuary site in central Greece for the god Apollo, much favoured for dedications by colonial and foreign states. Famous throughout the ancient world for its Temple of Apollo, and as a place for receiving oracles (advice from the gods) and for the Pythian Games. It is a notable source for archaic (architectural, from Treasuries) and classical sculpture (dedications) despite comprehensive plundering in Roman times. Overlooked by Mount Parnassos.
