31. Satyrs
The subject derives from its treatment in Greek late archaic glyptic, in terms of physique, pose and attributes. The head appears also in some of the joined-head compositions, and two flank a footprint (1/4). The tail is omitted in some versions which are not quite normal in Greek terms, having intimations of hunting, or the addition of a monkey, which may also intrude on otherwise Greek-style subjects (as AGGems no. 424, pl. 30).
